Is coaching for you?
You've read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Highlighted the lines that made your chest go tight. You intellectually get it. You could probably explain your own situation to someone else better than they could explain it to you.
You've read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Highlighted the lines that made your chest go tight.
You intellectually get it. You could probably explain your own situation to someone else better than they could explain it to you.
So why does it still feel stuck?
Here's what I've come to believe, both from my own Hollowing, from training and working as a Coach, and from every woman I've sat across from since: this was never an information problem, it comes down to vantage.
You cannot see yourself clearly from inside yourself. How we experience ourselves is completely different to how others experience us. You can't be your own witness, your own thinking partner, your own mirror - because nobody can. Not really. Not for the things that matter. You can read every book on the shelf and still be too close to your own life to see the pattern you're standing in. That's the beautiful gap coaching sits in.
Coaching is not advice; It's not a method, and it's certainly not a list of mindset hacks dressed up as a framework. I won't hand you five steps and say this is everything you need to solve all your problems.
It's a structured, witnessed conversation with someone whose only agenda is that you actually live the life you're capable of. That's it. That's the whole job.
It works, when it works, because it does a few specific things: It moves you from noticing to moving - which is the gap most women get stuck in for years, sometimes decades.
It gives you a structure outside yourself, for the weeks when your inner structure is wobbling and you need somewhere to lean that isn't your own resolve.
It makes things sayable out loud that you've only ever said in your head at eleven at night.
It holds you accountable without making you feel managed.
And it catches the patterns you can't see yourself, simply because they're sitting too close to your face.
The work isn't to figure it out. The work is to stop figuring it out alone. I get asked often whether coaching is just therapy with a different name. It isn't, and I'm very careful about the difference.
I cannot recommend therapy enough. I’ve had it myself and will forever dip in and out of therapy and things evolve in my life. Therapy looks back at what shaped you. It addresses trauma, difficulties, mental and emotional hurdles. By contract, Coaching looks forward at who you're becoming.
Both are real work. Both matter. Sometimes therapy comes first, sometimes they run alongside each other. But they aren't the same job, and I won't pretend they are just because it might be an easier sell.
Here's the other thing people don't expect me to say: coaching isn't meant to last forever either.
I'm not building a relationship where you need me indefinitely. I'm building the opposite. I want you to take the tools, do the work, and walk on without me. Independence is the point. If anything, my deepest wish for the women I work with is that they graduate. That they leave able to hold their own mirror for a good long while.
That doesn't mean you never come back. Life keeps happening - a redundancy, a relationship ending, a child leaving home, another Hollowing arriving right on schedule when you least expect it. When that happens, coaching is there again, the way a good pair of boots is there again. Not because you failed the first time. Because you're back in the messy middle of something new, and a bit of witnessed company makes the walk shorter. Coaching is something you come back to when you need it, not something you're meant to stay inside of.
So - is it for you?
Probably, if you've done the noticing and you're tired of just noticing. If you're not in crisis but you know you're in transition, and you'd like company for the walk rather than a cheerleader shouting from the sidelines. Probably not, if you want someone to hand you the answer, or you're after a single-session fix. That's not what this is, and I'd rather tell you that now than after you've booked. You don't need to have it figured out before you start. That's rather the point of the whole thing. Send me a note and tell me what this stirred up for you. Naming it together is part of the work.
